Smart Wi-Fi Dimmer Module - No Neutral Required for UK Switch Plates

UK wall switches are most often wired very simply. A live feed comes in, connects to the switch, and a switched live goes back out to the light fixture. What is missing at the switch is a neutral conductor, which is exactly what many modern smart devices rely on. This has made it difficult to upgrade existing switches in older homes without running additional cable.

This smart Wi-Fi dimmer module solves the problem. It is designed to work without a neutral connection, allowing it to be installed in the same back box as a standard UK switch plate. The module carries its own spindle, and the matching knob supplied with your chosen plate pushes directly onto this, so once fitted it looks and feels just like a conventional dimmer switch.

From the user’s perspective, the operation is familiar. Turn the knob to raise or lower the light level, press to switch on or off. At the same time, the module connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, adding app control, voice activation through Alexa, Google Assistant or Siri Shortcuts, and the ability to set scenes or timed schedules. This means the same switch that works by hand can also be operated remotely, or as part of a wider smart home routine.

The module supports both trailing-edge and leading-edge dimming, ensuring compatibility with dimmable LED, halogen and incandescent lamps. It can manage loads between 10 and 200 W for traditional lamps, or 5 to 100 W for LED. Protection against overload and overheating is built in, and reliable operation is ensured when the connected load is at least 5 W.

Installation requires only a standard 35 mm deep back box and is suitable for most domestic or light commercial environments such as living rooms, bedrooms, corridors, offices or hotel rooms.

Need 2-way operation?
If you want two switches to operate the same light, the module supports 2-way control when paired with a momentary action (retractive) switch. This provides on/off and dimming functions from both positions, while keeping the smart features active.
