Choosing and installing close-spaced LED strip lights
Close-spaced LED strip lights use a higher number of SMD chips per metre to create a more even, continuous light output. While still technically “point source” LEDs, the spacing is tight enough that once fitted into a profile with a diffuser, the result appears almost seamless.
When to choose close-spaced over COB:
Close-spaced LED tape produces a slightly sharper and more defined light edge, which helps with wall grazing, display lighting, and areas where you want strong light projection. COB tape, by comparison, gives a softer, more diffused beam. Close-spaced strips also allow more choice in brightness levels and colour temperatures, and are often easier to match with existing 24V systems.
Installation guidance:
Use aluminium profiles for heat dissipation and a neater appearance. Connect directly to a quality constant-voltage 24V driver, leaving 10–15 % headroom for efficiency. For longer runs, feed both ends of the tape or use parallel wiring to prevent voltage drop and maintain brightness across the length.
