LEDs require a device that can convert mains AC power to DC voltage, and regulate the current in the circuit. The driver converts 230V AC power to low-voltage DC power required by the LEDs, the driver also protects the LEDs from line-voltage fluctuations. LED chips, LED strips, LED strings, LED modules, LED bars and LED arrays can all be constructed in different ways. Some have a serial connection with a current-limiting resistor above them. Some use the on-board constant current regulator to replace the current-limiting resistor. While some add current balancing and smart protections onto the printed circuit board.
