Shaving mirrors - technical information and advice
This lighting category is called "shaving mirrors" however they are great for other close-up work i.e. eyebrows, make-up and general grooming. Buy this shaving mirror for your partner and use it for your own close-up work!
Notes on magnification levels
As we get older the focal point of our eyesight changes. If you use strong reading glasses we would suggest a 5x magnification mirror. If your eyesight is OK, or you wear your glasses in the bathroom. a 3 x magnification is more appropriate – a shaving mirror with x3 magnification allows the user to see more of their face in the mirror. Note that stronger magnified mirrors show an upside down image when viewed from further away. So for close scrutinisation use a high magnification, whereas glancing to check you’re beautiful and you have not missed any areas use a lower magnification.
Want a fog free shaving or vanity mirror?
Choose an illuminated shaving mirror with a G9 halogen or E14 tungsten lamp. Heat from the lamp will very quickly demist the mirror surface. You can use a clear fog free illuminated mirror in a steamy bathroom. Shaving will never be easier! Use your illuminated shaving mirror and you’ll never miss a whisker.
Bathroom zones
All our illuminated shaving mirrors are suitable for use in a bathroom. Check the detail on each mirror to see the bathroom zones where your mirror can be used. Zone 2 illuminated mirrors tend be operated by pull cords. Zone 3 illuminated mirrors may have a switch or a pull cord. Illuminated bathroom mirrors are not suitable for bathroom zone 1 - it is not safe under any circumstance to have an illuminated shaving mirror in a shower cubicle. For more details on the zones in bathrooms take a look under Advice and Ideas above.
Wiring for your illuminated shaving mirror
Many of our illuminated shaving mirrors need to be wired into the wall. They do not have a trailing lead or curly lead with shaver socket plug for use in a shaver socket. If you are in any doubt about how to wire in an illuminated shaving mirror please consult a qualified electrician.
