How to choose and install Tunable White (CCT) LED strip lights
How CCT works: warm and cool LEDs sit on the same tape and a two-channel controller blends them to the white you prefer. Pick tape that matches how you will use the space. For decorative shelves or toe-kicks you might want gentle output and wide diffusion. For task zones such as worktops or desks choose higher output and a suitable profile that controls glare.
Controls: a dedicated CCT controller is required. Options typically include handheld RF remotes, wired wall controls, or smart hubs. Check that your controller is rated for the total current of the tape and that it offers two channels for warm and cool. Most constant-voltage CCT tape uses a common positive and two negative channels, so three-core low-voltage cable is common.
Power: use a quality constant-voltage LED driver sized above the calculated load. Allow sensible headroom so the driver is not running at its limit. On longer runs consider feeding both ends or splitting into shorter sections to reduce voltage drop and keep brightness even.
Profiles and protection: aluminium profiles improve heat management and give a cleaner finish. Choose clear, opal or prismatic diffusers to suit the look you want. Select IP rating to match the environment, and dry fit everything before committing to adhesive.
