Could it be used on top of a wall post?
Yes but to ensure against water ingress a squirt of silicon to seal your incoming cable would be beneficial if there may be standing water.

Do these have built in motion sensors?
I`m afraid to say that these do not come with motion sensors.

Do I need transformers for these? I need to replace (too large) existing exterior lights - can these just be screwed on without having to make a hole in the soffit boards?
These fittings use a GX53 compact fluorescent and just need a mains supply (no transformer required!).
