Can the light source be changed?
The LED is integrated into the fitting and cannot be changed.

Do I need to chop into the wall behind to accommodate any wiring or can it be fitted straight onto the wall?
The light fixes to a wall plate and the mains connection comes through this plate. So you will have to put at least part of the flex.

Does this go farther than 90 degrees from the wall?
the fitting has a 180º tilt and 165º rotation.

is the led replaceable? if so what is the fitting? is there a transformer box?
This fixture uses a long life LED chip, if this fails a new component can be replaced when returned to us for service. The fixture has a built in driver to provide a low voltage DC supply for the LED chip.

The fitting acts as the switch - the lamp instantly turns on when you pull it out from its flush position.

What are the dimensions of this light

How symmetrically could a pair be arranged as bedside lights? Obviously if I flip one over the hinge will look different, but is the range of movement identical upwards and down?
The range of movement is identical upwards and down. They are designed to be installed as a pair both ways.

Is this light suitable to have over a desk for studying? Will it get very hot after a long period of use?
This fitting is ideal for study areas. Using a 1w LED the fitting will not get too hot unlike if you was using a halogen lamp. Of course it will get warm if left on for extensive periods but will not reach temperatures that will cause any damage.
