Yes, the light can be switched. The fitting is 185mm deep so please deduct this from your ceiling height.

Is this bulb replaceable when it is at the end of its life or will I need a whole new unit?
The LED is integrated and not replaceable however this has a lamp life time of 25,000 hours so in terms life expectancy that is 17 years. It also comes with a warranty should there be any issues.
