Hi, if a lamp fitting says max 40w, will this 10w be ok or will the equivalent 60w halogen output mean it is too high for a 40w fitting? I'm thinking it should be ok as I take it as being a 10w but the comparison to a 60w halogen is making me doubt myself... thank you.
Think of watts as heat. A ten watt LED lamp gives as much heat as 10 watt tungsten lamp (but 8x as much light), so if your fixture suggests a maximum 40w you could use a 40w LED lamp (but that would be as bright as a 300w filament lamp). For easy comparison most 6watt LEDs give the light of an old 40w filament lamp, whereas 8w is a 60w and 10w is a 75w.
