Northern Line Black Coolicon Pendant - Underground Inside

The original Coolicon design classic is back in production. Patented in 1939 the Coolicon shade has a coloured exterior and white inner using a vitreous enamel coating that ensures their long life in the harshest environments. As a result these became the de facto standard and were specified by civil servants for use in offices, canteens, factories, war rooms and shelters throughout the UK right up to the 1960s.

True to the original patent and made in England to the same high standards. The shade has a spun steel reflector providing downward task lighting and a welded ventilated gallery at the top giving soft light up.

If the design alone does not whisk you wistfully back to a former time in one's life, the fact that this version features the original 1933 version of the London Underground map, will. This design by Harry Beck proves a great talking point for many as they discover stations closed and routes changed over the last 80 years. What is more the map detail is enamelled and not a decal so it will neither rub off nor fade.

The originals are scarce, expensive and the lightweight imports and reproductions that you might find are nothing like the true design classic and are not for the discerning buyer.
