T5 Triphosphor lamps give a better colour rendering than standard halophosphor lamps - they score 80-89Ra in the colour rendering index (old T8 and T12 lamps score 54-67Ra). T5 Triphosphor lamps are approximately 40% smaller than T8 lamps and almost 60% smaller than T12 lamps. T5 lamps have a G5 base (bi-pin with 5 mm spacing), while T8 and T12 lamps use a G13 base.

T5 tubes operate at a higher temperature for the purposes of regulating the mercury vapour pressure in the tube. This makes T5 lamps both electrically and physically incompatible with T8 and T12 lamps. These differences in dimension prevent T5 lamps from being used as replacements for T8 and T12 lamps.

So if your light fixture uses T5 lamps you will get long life, good colour rendering and flicker-free operation.
