Modern exterior lanterns - bracket mounted

Exterior bracket lights can be divided into two types; hanging or standing:

- Hanging bracket lights have the wall plate towards the top and the lantern is lower down
- Standing bracket lights have the wall fixing plate towards the base and the lanterns is higher than the bracket

So why is this important? Well, beyond aesthetics practicality can be important too. For example if you have guttering above the area where you plan to fix the mounting plate a hanging bracket will drop the fixture lower than the guttering whereas a standing bracket may be too close or even hit the gutters.

Wall lanterns for exterior walls and gardens

If your garden does not have any lighting adding a garden wall light must be one of the easiest ways of getting some light into your garden in the evening. For many years a majority of UK homes had no lighting and the few homes that did have exterior lighting often only had functional lighting to avoid tripping over when outside. With a new interest in making outside spaces part of your home manufacturers have moved to produce a wide and extensive range of lights to illuminate your outdoor spaces. Now the choice is vast with period style wall lights, wall lights that provide glare free lighting for door entrances and circulation areas, wall lights designed to create decorative effects on the wall and ground, and wall lights in stainless steel, copper, bronze, zinc, as well as galvanised and all shades of painted finishes.

Wall lights are easy to install but we always suggest you consult a qualified electrician for further advice on installation.
