Are these suitable over a shower?
Yes, The IP65 rating means they are suitable for use over a shower.

I have a 24volt transmitter in the bathroom. Can I connect this to it?
You could connect two 12v down lights in series to a 24v power supply. It`s not ideal though, we would suggest one transformer for each downright.

I still work in terms of the old light bulbs - what would these lights be the equivalent of. e.g. 40 watt 60 watt or 100 watt bulbs? I need to know how many to buy for our bathroom project please.
Use a 50w 12v lamp in this fixture and it will give the light of a old school 75w reflector lamp. Use a mains GU10 lamp and it will give the light of a 60w reflector lamp. Please note however that the beam angles are narrower than old reflector lamp. We are happy to provide free design assistance, see our customer service section for details.

Can I connect the 12v version direct to 12v solar supply, without a transformer?
Yes you can a 12v DC supply. However it would be wise to use a lower wattage lamp or use a LED lamp to make the most off any free electricity supply you have.
