In-Store retail Lighting

Retail environments need to appear attractive, exciting and inviting to the shopper.  Modern practice is to combine accent lighting with ambient lighting. Ambient lighting is often called general lighting and the layout of the lighting fixtures provides a diffused layer of uniform illumination throughout the retail area. Light fixtures used to provide ambient lighting typically have wide beam distribution and are often arranged symmetrically.

Conversely accent lighting is used to emphasize product shape, texture and finish. The purpose of accent lighting is to produce a contrast between merchandise and the background. In spaces with high levels of ambient or natural light accent light needs to deliver a punch to make an impression.

Finally, regardless of the lighting fixtures used, each fixture or the combination of light from different fixtures, needs to provide light with a high colour rendering so merchandise looks the correct colour in the retail space.

Lighting Styles has many years of service in retail and can advise on single fixtures or provide design advice for your retail space.  Please contact us if you would like assistance.
