Voltage drop is a key consideration in the design of any electrical system, especially in low-voltage lighting. Magnetic tracks are an architectural system so tend to be used in longer runs with fewer lights than a mains track system.

Keeping the profile small has an impact on all components including the size of conductor rails within the track, so using a higher voltage ensures that the resistance of the electrical conductors and subsequent reduction in voltage does not result in decreased light output or inconsistent lighting quality along the track. Of course, 48 volts is still regarded as SELV making it a great choice for both safety and performance.
