Two of these delivered as fast as the processing and post could get them to me! Great service, with an advisory email even to say when the parcel had been despatched. I mounted these on architrave-switch patress boxes, for which you will need a pair of additional mounting screws per light when you buy the boxes, but cut down to approx. 10mm long in using the end knock-out holes. (The supplied screws and plugs can be used for another job!) However, it does mean that an additional connector and alength of flex will be required to connect between the mains and the connector in the lamp. I also used a separate earth conection between the two, due to the difference in locations. One of the mounting brackets needed a slight tweak in the vice, as it was not flat across the back. A small sharp projection on the back of one of the housings also snagged the wallpaper I should have spotted it really.Overall it does just what we wanted. I am interested this bedside lamp but as a plug in alternative as all wiring & decorating has already been completed & we do not have in built wiring for either side if the bed . Any suggestions? With a sharp drill bit (following an initial pilot hole) you could quite easily drill a hole in underside of this mounting plate. Protect your ingoing flex with a rubber grommet and connect up to the terminal block inside. There is a covering fascia plate to the front that would hide any imperfect DIY skills.

This lamp may be what we are looking for. Three questions: 1) Presumably the two arms each bend in two directions? 2) If so, how long is the 'reach' of the arms from the central fixing point if the light is extended straight out? 3) Does the head of the lamp rotate to an angle, or is it fixed as shown? Both hinges rotate 180 degrees. At full extension the centre of the lamp (bulb) is 345mm from the wall. The head rotates and tilts.

I want 2 of these lamps to fit onto a wall either side of a dressing table mirror to give a good strong light onto my face when making up. Are these suitable? Yes they'd give you a good amount of light - however just be aware the light source is fluorescent so skin tones will not look as warm as incandescent light.

Does the face plate fit flush to the wall or is proud of the wall. If proud of the wall what depth is it from the wall? The face plate hides a back box (housing the electrics/ connector box etc), with a depth of 20mm.

is the light from the TS3863CC gentler and more subtle than that produced by one of the LED reading lamps which can be a bit harsh? Is is suitable to be mounted on the side of a headboard/cabinet rather than the wall behind the bed? Yes the light from a CFL lamp is softer due the larger luminous surface. It's close to incandescent. Some LED lamps are a little "sharp" and the colour temperature can be too blue. The product is "F" marked meaning it can be mounted on normally flammable surfaces i.e. wood safely.

Where is the switch on this lamp? The toggle switch is located on the bottom of the wall plate.

I need to replace my bedside wall lamps and I like these. What worries me most is the quality of the light. I use 100w incandescent bulbs everywhere at home. What bulb is likely to give me the same warmth and brightness? In this situation we would suggest that you buy this fitting, discard the free lamp supplied and use one of the 13watt white (3000ºk) GX53 lamps found under "Spare Lamps" link.
