Traditional post lights tend to provide diffuse lighting all around but many give a high downward light ratio. Some designs partially shield the lamp to avoid projecting light into the eyes, illuminating the night sky or annoying neighbours. The style of post light chosen should reflect the architectural character of your home, your personal taste or a combination of the two. Often post and pillar lights are used to provide safe illumination to steps and raised planted areas to make your journey through garden easier.
Many of our traditional post and pillar lights are hand finished with gold or silver paint to soften the look and make them more suited to period properties. Brass and copper components that are not lacquered will oxidise and take on a dated patina quickly to look like they have always been part of your garden.
Very few traditional style post lights come with built in movement detectors. If you like one of our designs but need it to be operated by a movement detector you may benefit from using an independent PIR detector which can switch on all garden lights when the sensor is tripped. Often the sensors can be located in an inconspicuous location i.e. at the start of a pathway or drive; this allows your light and many others to be switched on as soon as they may be necessary.
Traditional garden post and pillar are straightforward to fix in place but we do suggest you speak with a qualified electrician if you have any questions about wiring and switching post lights in your garden. We always recommend that post lighting is installed in accordance with the latest edition of the wiring regulations.
