Would this also work for lighting a cupboard? Yes, but must be mounted on the non hinged side of the cupboard (same side as handle) the door,when closed pushes in a switch, which turns off the light.

Does this light have to be fitted at the time of cupboard/drawer construction or can it be fitted later? No these can be installed into existing furniture. Removing the drawers may help though!
