I've heard that toroidal transformers create a large start-up current, so I may need to upgrade my MCB to a 'C'-type. How can I tell if I already have a suitable MCB, as assume upgrading is expensive. Don't even concern yourself with inrush current unless you plan to have more than ten 300va transformers on the same circuit. Your standard MCB will handle your loads without any issues at all.

I would like to run a wire track over a 3m space above our table and hang 3 or 4 pendants from it. Is there any limit to number on one track? Can the pendants be moved along the track easily or once installed are they fixed permanently? How is the power installed? I would hope to take from our overhead light fitting. What exactly do I need to buy to set all of this up? The tension wire system uses either 100va, 200va or 300va transformers. Your load cannot exceed the rating of the transformer. So 6 x 50w lamp is the maximum load. on a 300va transformer. Lights can be moved but if this is going to be a regular occurrence you should consider a rigid track. A short length of the tension wire is used to take power from the transformer to the track. The feed into the track can be clamped on anywhere on the length of the track. If this is being fixed to the ceiling, you'll require 8 metres of tension wire (4mm if using four pendants and 6mm if using more), a transformer, ceiling deflectors (suspect three), two tension holder packs, your feed-in, and of course your pendants. What width cable installation is needed for these pendants? You may choose from 4mm or 6mm cable. Your total load determines which you should use i.e. 200w or lower use 4mm, over 200 watts use the 6mm cable.
