ome incandescent bulbs are very inefficient; converting only about 5% of the energy they receive into light and the UK government is set to ban the sale of the standard incandescent light bulb. Other lamps and lighting equipment that are being scrutinised and may be banned include low-efficiency fluorescent tubes, high-loss "ballasts" for fluorescent tubes, high-loss halogen transformers and mercury discharge lamps.

If you want to reduce your carbon footprint use energy efficient lamps, running on high frequency electronic ballasts and switch off your lights when they are not required both at work and at home.
