Can the PIRs be operated in parallel? In other words can 2 of these units operate the same lights? If the units had a relay output then this would be electrically feasible. Yes you are correct. relays can be incorporated in the lighting circuit to have more than one detector operating the same lights i.e. both end of a corridor or to switch between dimmed lighting when areas are unoccupied and full output when movement is detected. A good electrician should be able to advise you on what relay would be required to suit your conditions and use.

I have purchased 2 lots of a cheaper PIR units, ES34T Security Motion Sensor (EverSpring Industry), and both lots have failed after a short period of time. I suspect that the problem is surges on the power supply, since I live in a rural area with overhead lines. Have these units got well designed input circuitry that would survive power surges? More often than not failures are caused by high loads on the inbuilt micro switched relay. The relay can switch a 1Kw load on a resistive load (incandescent tungsten lamps). The relay will only operate a 300w load from inductive loads (including low voltage fittings running on a transformer and compact fluorescent lamps. Ensure you are not overloading the circuit or the relay contacts will quickly fail. Again a separate relay can used to switch bigger loads with the micro switch throwing the relay only.

Can this item control 2 wall lamps? Do you offer something similar with remote control so I can turn my exterior lamps on & off on top of the PIR as I do not want to run cables for an actual override wall mounted switch? Our remote PIR sensors can switch several lights with a maximum combined load of 1300 watts. We do not have a combined PIR with remote control override (and are not aware of any product that offers this facility). A Heath Robinson design would use a radio transmitter, receiver and a couple of relays - switching the power between two routes: PIR and override. Perhaps an electronics shop would be more help?

I want to switch on a courtesy lamp from a PIR during the hours of darkness as normal, but I want the PIR to activate a remote alarm during the daytime without the light coming on. I envisage adapting a wireless doorbell system to provide the remote alert. Can I get a PIR with two outputs, one unaffected by the photocell? We would envisage the best solution to be a mains supply to the PIR. The switched live would then go to; a, an additional photocell; and b, your "alarm system". Thereby at night the light and the "alarm system" are activated and during the day only the "alarm system" is activated. Quite what that alarm system would be (and how it would work by just having a switched supply) is for you to decide - a buzzer perhaps?

How do i wire the PIR to operate an outside light. Would the PIR be wired inbetween the mains & the light? Exactly so, (just think of them like a switch), plus these PIR's are also fitted with the ability for loop-in loop-out wiring.

We recently had a rewire, and a new pir was installed. Originally there was a double switch by the front door, one for hall lights, one we did a on-off-on-off to override the pir and have the lights on continuously. Now we only have a single switch for the hall lights and no way of overring the pir. Is there a pir with a switch to override it, I cant face more wiring. Pity I did not notice this at the time. Oh dear you have our sympathy. I guess you want to be able to bypass the motion detection so you can manually switch the lights on for a period of time? If you have no switch to interrupt the supply to the PIR we'll need to find a way of changing the mode without switching off the power at the consumer unit. A RF operated in-line switch is one option (although involves a degree of aggravation) perhaps there is a PIR unit out there with this built in. We will check with some of the more "technically advanced products" and let you know.
