The lighting industry is now moving away from creating LED lamp that simply replace mains GU10 lamps and are concentrating more on designing new products around the small and intense LED chip. These LED downlights are a fine example of this new thinking with a very broad spread of light (120º degrees) they move away from the tight beams and the resulting shadows encountered with halogen lamps. Having such a broad distribution means that less fitting are required in a space to provide even illumination.
This range of high output LED downlight use a circular array of SMD (surface mounted diodes) to provide a very broad spread of light with high colour rendering and a colour temperature of 4000ºk.
The design uses a LED array mounted on an aluminium panel with heat sink for superior temperature control. The light is diffused because the circuit board is encased in silicone giving diffused light and provide exceptional colour rendering.
A constant current LED power supply is incorporated into the fixture and is fixed to the top of the heat sink so only a mains supply is required.
This fixed downlight has the LED cluster at the top of a 50mm deep aluminium reflector which reduces discomfort glare and give a 60º beam distribution. It is well suited to domestic and commercial use and would work well in hotel lobbies and bars.
