The drum transformer is available in three outputs 100, 200 and 300va.
All three sizes are available in the polished chrome housing.
The 300va transformer is also available in a silver grey paint finish.
To find the right size transformer for your needs add up the wattage of the lamps and ensure the wattage of the transformer matches or is higher than your total i.e. 6 x 50w lamps will require a 300va transformer and 5 x 35w lamps would need a 200va transformer - simples!
That said you should aim to use at least 80% of the capacity of the transformer i.e. 80w on a 100va, 160w on a 200va and 240w on a 300va for optimum performance.
Dimensions and details:
100va (100 watt) is 125mm diameter and 95mm deep - the cylinder is not perforated.
200va (200 watt) is 155 mm in diameter and 115mm deep - the cylinder is not perforated.
300va (300 watt) is 160mm in diameter and 95mm deep - the cylinder is perforated to assist cooling.
On some lighting circuits a Type C MCBs may have to be used to avoid tripping because of the higher current associated with this type of transformer - these only cost a few pounds.
While torodial transformers are dimmable they often have an issue with harmonics (a buzzing noise) that may be present. If you want a dimmable transformer take a look at the 300 watt dimmable electronic transformer.
