Can the 12v version be installed in a zone 2 bathroom area? I'm having problems sourcing a replacement to fit a 100mm hole. This fitting has not been tested for bathroom zones. If it was tested it is likely to only be OK for zone 3. Try our Hydro fitting - this requires a minimum 90mm diameter hole and has a bezel 115mm so would work well in your location |
So, does '''' cut out'''' of 140mm mean that this is suitable for a hole up to 140mm please? Therefore suitable for a hole size 130mm? Sorry to sound silly..... No such thing as a daft question. The plate will cover any existing hole from around 60mm up to a maximum of 140mm. |
i have a number of old style mains powered downlighters to replace.
can you confirm the offered product is complete with transformer and bulb - on a per light basis. Each 12v kit consists of a fixed downlight with oversize bezel, a 60va transformer and lamp. |
Are these lights dimmable? The transformer that we supply with this kit is bombproof and will work on ANY dimmer module without issue. |
I have four downlights in my kitchen, which need to be replaced. Having removed one I have a 100mm diameter hole. Would your downlight converter be suitable? Also would I need the converter option as to my knowledge there are no converters on the current ones.
This downlight converter consists of a downlight that fits inside an oversize bezel (supplied). We offer this fitting to take either a mains lamp of a low voltage (12v) lamp. The lamps are supplied. A transformer is supplied with the 12v version. |
I want to replace four R80 downlighters with four downlight converters in 12v. Am I correct in assuming I will only get the equivalent of half the light output from the replacement downlighter? A 50w 12v lamp will give the equivalent light as a 60w R80 lamp. But the beam is more intense than a R80 lamp. Thereby if you have a relatively high ceiling or a liberal number of downlights the switch will be an improvement. If you have fewer downlights or a low ceiling the results will be patchy. |
I need to replace some old R80 eyeball fittings installed in the bedrooms of my house. However, the positions are quiet random with only three in the two larger rooms and two in the small room. The ceiling hieghts are only 2445mm hight. I was thinking of using the converter 12v kit to replace these lights but I am concerned that where the original eyeball lights are directional the replacement lights will not give as much light? Please advise if this fitting is convenient for my use and if not please could you recommend an alternative fitting that would fit into the 130mm cut out size left from the R80 fittings? A 50w 60º lamp is going to give the same light as a R80 60w lamp. But there's no adjustment the lamps point straight down. If you need more light and adjustment an AR111 downlight with the Philips Masterline 111 45w lamp would do the trick - the 45w AR111 lamp gives as much light as a standard 75w AR111 which, intern, would be as much as a 100w R80 lamp. Call us if you would like details. |
I'm thinking of replacing my old R50 eyeball fittings in my kitchen/diner as I have had a new kitchen fitted and one eyeball is now too close to the top of the units. Will the GU10's that come with the fitting have a lower heat output? Also would I be able to replace the GU10's with dimmable LED's in the future. I see there are few dimmable LED's on the market right now and they are very expensive. I currently have 14 fittings on two dimmers. The heat out put of the GU10s supplied is likely to be fairly similar if the wattages are comparable. It would be advisable to consider a cooler running lamp and you are quite correct LEDs are the coolest running of all lamps currently on the market.
Dimmable LEDs are very expensive as the technology is relatively new. However you may find by mixing and matching quality high power LED retro fit lamps with standard halogen lamps will provide sufficient wattage to enable your current dimmer to dim them. A practical solution which shouldn't break the bank!
Please call or email direct if you would like further assistance. |
Can you recommend a dimmer to control 6 of these units? With the fittings taking a 50w lamp that gives you a total wattage of 300 watts so we would suggest you use our 400w richmond dimmer switch which can be found in Accessories. |
We currently have 3 R80 downlighters in our kitchen extension (22 foot long)with 100w bulbs in. Would replacing them with 3 12v downlight converters give off the same light? Our downlight converter is the most common choice to replace the old R80 spotlights. Included in the 12v kit is a 50W halogen lamp which has a 60º beam angle giving you a wide spread of light so 3 should be sufficient. |
I need to replace 6 x R80 eyeball fittings in a single story kitchen extension. Which is the most economical system with the best light output - your mains converter with 6 watt led lamps or the 12v version?
The LED lamps that run of the mains will last longer, but for the best economical system with the best light output would be the 12v version. |
I have got 9 x eyeball tilt downlighters in my kitchen, which need to be replaced. The hole diameter is 73mm and the void is 60mm. We would like a brushed Crome effect. Can our recommend a suitable replacement please? With you having a large cutout, you are going to need a oversized downlight, our selection of them can be found by clicking here All these would be suitable for you. |
I have 6 old R80 units in my kitchen that I wish to replace. I would like to use a system more economical on power, therefore possibly 12v. I want to make it dimmable so that I can adjust the light levels. Does each lighting unit come with an individual electronic transformer or do you put in one transformer for the entire circuit? How much more efficient is the 12v system? Does the transformer produce heat / fire hazard? How difficult would it be to introduce 2 circuits to dim sections separately? 12v halogen lamps save about 40% ON ENERGY Verses a standard incandescent lamp and last at least twice as long. You are better off using one transformer per fixture - especially when re-using existing wiring. Transformers get warm but present no fire hazard. If they are covered in insulation a thermal cut-out switches them off. Setting up two circuits is not too difficult but you should consult with an electrician. |
I want to replace some R63 downlighters. These have a ceiling cutout of just over 70mm and an outside diameter of around 100mm. Will these converters fit into this size hole without further cutting?
Yes, the cut-out for these particular downlights can be anything between 70-140mm |
