The spec for this is a 12V 20W halogen bulb - can a higher wattage such as 30 or 40 be fitted with the existing or different transformer.
The lamp holder in this fitting will only accept G4 based lamps. G$ lamps are only available in 5w, 10w and 20w. So if you need more light you'll have to look at another pendant.

Can the length of hanging cable be adjusted to desired length.
The ceiling plate has an inbuilt clutch mechanism which allows you to adjust the height at any time.

Is this light dimmable?
This fitting uses a low voltage halogen capsule lamp and is best dimmed with a trailing edge dimmer. That said it will dim with a standard dimmer, however you may experience some buzzing noise.

I am considering 3 or 4 of these to put over a dining table. Please advise how they connect to the ceiling - is it a flush fitting or a mounting plate?
Each pendant has a smallish ceiling canopy that houses a compact 12v transformer. An additional image has been added to illustrate the ceiling detail.

What diameter is the ceiling canopy?
I've has an MK brushed nickel 4 gang dimmer switch put in. How can I tell if it is a trailing edge dimmer?
How many of these pendants could each dimmer take.

The ceiling canopy is 190mm in diameter.
The transformer in this fitting is likely to operate on any dimmer type without issues. You could check with MK to be sure.
Your load is determined by the rating of the transformer rather than the lamp. Each fitting has a 60Va transformer. So you can use four on a 250w dimmer or 6 on a 400w dimmer module.
With a 20w lamp you are unlikely to create glare.
