Description

A very pretty solid glass downlight that can be used to add interest to the ceiling in commercial and domestic settings.

Offers an ingress protection of IP65 which is water jet proof making this suitable for use in bathroom zones 1, 2 & 3.

Relamping is carried out with the fitting in situ and no tools are required.

12v version will have a longer lamp life than the mains version.

The tiered soda glass gives an interesting lighting effect on the ceiling.

The MIK5501 takes a GU10 50w lamp which is included. Can also use our 5w Ideal Fit LED lamp.

The MIK5513 takes a GU5.3 50w lamp which is NOT included and will require a transformer.

The MIK5600 takes a GU5.3 50w lamp which is NOT included and will require a transformer.

Will these lights take the new low energy light bulbs?
Only the mains version will accept CFL energy saving lamps but these must be the same length as a mains GU10 lamp i.e. 7 watt. While 7w CFL lamps are efficient they're not much more efficient than a 12v halogen reflector lamp as much of the light created dies not get out of the lamp. Our suggestion is to use either mains or 12v halogen lamps for now and change to LED lamps in a couple of years when they'll be brighter, cheaper and even more efficient than those available at present.

Are these lights ok to be situated over a shower enclosure?
Yes with a rating of IP65 these fittings are jetproof so can be used in zones 1, 2 and 3 in the bathroom.

Can i use this product on a solid(non recessed) ceiling?
Apologies, no this is not suitable for mounting on a solid ceiling. The lamp holder and ceiling clips protrude from the back of the down light and required housing in the ceiling void.

I am very interested in the Soda Glass downlight (ip65 mains) but my concern is that it would be fitted to a ceiling space filled with insulation. The question now is would this downlight be suitable and with any consequent fire risk involved?
There would only be a fire risk if the downlight is covered with insulation. Insulation itself is not flammable but if a recessed ceiling light is covered over it may overheat, short circuit and this is a fire risk.
We have painted a pretty bleak picture here and any installation that follows the instructions supplied with the light fixture will have no issues. In short, cut away insulation around the light, or make a box from MDF or plasterboard that maintains the ventilation required.
If your ceiling is fire rated (most aren't) you can use a fire rated version of this fitting to maintain the fire integrity. The advantage of using these in ceilings that are not fire rated is the housing keeps the insulation away from the hot lamp.

I've bought a 360 flush Mount PIR light controller, can we use this with this fixture?
You can use a motion sensor to operate all types of domestic lamps including mains GU10 lamps, 12 volt lamps operating on a transformer and fluorescent lamps.

My order for a soda Glass downlight (12v) was delivered today Thank you. My query is:
There is a small wire cable connected from the reflector through the body of the light. I assume this is for safety but should it be removed prior to fitting?
The little braided cable is there for safety in case the user drops the glass when changing the lamp. You can snip this off if not required.
