I would really like downlighters to be fitted to my bathrrom ceiling. However I may have a problem. The ceiling was replastered in recent years. This was done by fixing plasterboard over the old ceiling and then skimming with plaster.The old ceiling was constructed of lathe and plaster. Is there a risk the heat from the downlighters in the ceiling void could cause the lathes to ignite?
These fittings are "F" Marked meaning they can be installed in normally combustible material i.e. wood. So if they touch the lathes or not you'll have no problem. The bigger issue for you is cutting the holes, use a hole saw on a SLOW speed or the old plaster (being harder than plasterboard) will very quickly blunt the hole saw.

How dose the light shade come off to be able to change the bulb
You just turn and twist the glass part off to gain access to the lamp.
