Light Bars & Spotlights

Spotlights and Light Bars are available now that are specifically designed for use in Zone 2. Whilst spotlights do not provide the best possible light for a bathroom they are often better than a single ceiling mounted fitting in the centre of the room. See our design guide below for more information.

In an ideal world we would only use the best possible lighting solution in our bathrooms. This would incorporate general ambient lighting from ceiling lighting, task lighting to the side of a bathroom mirror and feature lighting i.e. some recessed downlights washing the walls with colour. But in the real world when we refurbish a bathroom there needs to be a degree of compromise. So if your bathroom is already tiled you may not want to fit wall lights or an illuminated mirror. Equally if you cannot easily gain access to the void above the ceiling additional ceiling fittings have to be ruled out.

If you are in a tight spot you may want to consider using a light bar. These take the supply from an existing lighting point and carry power to lamps along the length of the bar. More lamps increases the total light output and spreading further from the lighting point reduces the shadows normally associated with centre spots. It not ideal but it is better.

Lastly please be aware that in the UK any ceiling fixed lighting can be used in Zone 3. Increasingly we are told of bathroom fitters who insist that IP44 fittings (zone 2) are used throughout the bathroom. This is incorrect we can supply support documents if required.
