GU10 CFL 11w - Energy Saving Lamp

The GU10 base CFL lamp is ultimately a miniature compact fluorescent reflector lamp with built in electronic ballast.

Lamp has GU10 base cap making it suitable for replacement of mains halogen GU10 reflector lamps.

This Crompton lamp is available in warm white (2700ºk) and cool white (4200ºk).

 

There are some characteristics that vary from halogen lamps...

LAMP SIZE: While this lamp has the same 50mm rim diameter of 50mm the lamp length is longer. A GU10 mains reflector lamp is approximately 55mm long - this is 23mm longer at 78mm. So will not fit all GU10 fittings.

LIGHT OUTPUT: The lumen output of the is equivalent to a 55w bulb - note a 50w halogen reflector lamp has a more intense beam of light, this CFL version will give a broader spread

DIMMING: This lamp will not operate properly on a rotary or any other type of dimmer unit. However using this lamp on a dimmer controlled circuit will not damage the dimmer unit - useful if you wish to have some halogen and energy saving lamps on the same circuit.

LAMP LIFE: Expect an MTBF lamp life of 8,000 hours. This will be reduced by use in rooms with a higher than average switching cycle i.e. lavatories.

LAMP CHARACTERISTICS: CFL lamps do not operate immediately at full light output. A few seconds (or minutes in colder areas) are required for the tube to reach it's optimum operating temperature.

COLOUR RENDERING: CFL lamps are not 100% perfect in their colour rending (RA index) and subjects may appear 'flatter' than under halogen lamps.

Is this light suitable for use with external patio uplights? I am worried about the extreme temperature differences throughout the year. You're right to be concerned about extreme temperatures. Cold weather reduces the light output of many CFL lamps and if it is very cold some may not work at all. High temperatures can reduce the lamp life of CFL lamps too so it's bad news for many exterior applications. Have you considered using LED lamps?
